A Key Person will be a teacher in the team who will look after your child’s profile folders, and who will also look after your child’s and your family’s needs while they are at The Treehouse.
- They will be a special ‘go-to’ person that you can liaise with to talk about any questions, highlights, or concerns.
- They will be there to talk with about your child’s learning and development, for example if you child is nearly ready to use the toilet, and to offer advice when needed.
- You may also talk to your Key Person about the day to day information that you feel the teachers need to know about your child, for example, if they need an early sleep
This is not to say you cannot talk to the other teachers about your child! You are still more than welcome to talk to any member of the team, as each teacher has their own unique ideas to contribute.
Your Key Person will eventually come to know your child very well, so you can be secure in the knowledge that they have somebody they know and trust when you are away from them. With this trust, your child will be confident to interact with other children, other teachers, and the environment, using their Key Person as a board in which to bounce their ideas and exploration. Also, because of this trust, your child will be happy to go to other teachers should your Key Person be away. In the event that your Key Person is away for any period of time, another teacher in the team will be your child’s Secondary Person, and take on their role.
By using this approach, we can ensure consistency in your child’s care, and a holistic understanding of your child’s needs, personality, likes, and dislikes etc., as your special Key Person comes to know and understand your child over many years.
